Covelong is a small village located near the city of Chennai, in the state of Tamil Nadu. If you are looking for a perfect weekend getaway, then you need not look any further than Covelong as the beaches here are very serene and beautiful. One major advantage that Covelong holds over the other tourist destinations that are located along the coastline is the fact that tourists don’t exactly throng to this place, and it is quite secluded, ideal for some alone-time. You can visit the Dutch fort in this region, which is a must see location. This port was constructed during the late parts of the 19th century, and is now in ruins. This magnificent structure has been converted into a resort, and you can stretch your feet and have a good time here. You can also visit the Catholic Church in Covelong, which is also quite famous in the region. This church is a very tall structure, and is one of the landmarks in the village. In case you have enough time in your itinerary, you can also visit the nearby Mahabalipuram rock temples, which lie in the region and were constructed during the time between the 6th – 8th centuries. The village of Covelong is located near the coast, so the general climate in the region is highly influenced by the sea. Like the rest of Tamil Nadu, Covelong enjoys a tropical climate and has around three basic seasons, including summer, winter and monsoon. Summers in Covelong are quite harsh and hot, while the winters are relatively cool and can be an ideal time to visit the place.
